Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Educational Services, the Dean provides leadership for student wellness and support services across the four colleges, which includes the coordination of programs that intersect with student wellness, including basic needs support. The responsibilities of the Dean of Student Wellness and Support Services includes, but are not limited to planning, developing and implementing comprehensive programs and activities designed to facilitate the physical and emotional well-being of students, thereby improving retention and academic success.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordination and administration of district-wide student wellness and support service delivery at Los Rios Community College District’s (LRCCD) four colleges: American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College.
  • Coordination and support of district-wide student wellness and support services, including basic needs and categorical programs, such as Extended Opportunities Program and Services (EOPS), and Disabled Student Program and Services (DSPS).
  • On-site supervision and leadership for the day-to-day operation of each college’s Student Wellness Centers, including staff, faculty, health and mental health consultants and student workers.
  • Developing and implementing student wellness programming, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating and coordinating student wellness and support service delivery with key college stakeholders, including, the college Vice Presidents of Student Services and other advisory bodies to obtain feedback on college and student needs and to inform program planning efforts.
  • Developing annual budgets and monitoring expenditures.
  • Monitoring and maintaining regular inventories of supplies needed for service delivery.
  • Evaluating and recommending equipment/supply purchases and service contracts.
  • Providing information and referrals to individuals and groups about student wellness-related issues, including health education and promotion of available support services available to students.
  • Ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures as well as established health and safety regulations.
  • Preparing guidelines and manuals to cover the methods and conduct of programs and services supervised.
  • Gathering and maintaining data on students and analyzing student data trends.
  • Organizing and participating in the preparation and maintenance of administrative records and reports related to activities and finances, including an up- to-date referral database and directory of off-campus wellness services available to students.
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating district-wide student wellness programs and services.
  • Monitoring progress in achievement of overall student wellness program goals and objectives, assessing service delivery needs, and completing annual program reviews and developing recommendations for the continued improvement of student wellness programs.
  • Implementing and maintaining electronic records systems, and ensuring compliance with all privacy laws, policies and regulations.
  • Initiating and leading collaborations with county and community agencies to provide on-site wellness and support services for students.
  • Serving on college/district committees as needed/requested.
  • Providing collaborative leadership in the development and implementation of crisis prevention programs including the review of campus safety procedures.
  • Ensuring departmental area(s) are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Coordinating with the district’s contracted licensed medical consultants regularly on health service related issues and needs.
  • Evaluating the performance of assigned staff and faculty to assess individual performance and recommend developmental practices.
  • Maintaining currency of qualifications for area of assignment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements

This position requires the following knowledge and skills:

  • Strategic planning and program development.
  • Effective organizational, program planning, and coordination, including principles of strategic planning.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing to successfully direct the day to day operations of the district’s student wellness programs and services.
  • Ability to generate, use and apply data to develop statistical reports to evaluate program effectiveness for continuous program improvement and to meet federal, state and district reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain collegial relationships with district and college administrators, staff, faculty, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise, lead, and schedule staff.
  • Conducting employee evaluations.
  • Applying knowledge of physical and mental health education to develop services for students.
  • Budget development and budget management techniques.
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies, mandated reporting requirements, state/federal regulations regarding medical and mental health records, and state regulations regarding health and mental health service delivery.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Creative and solution-oriented problem-solving skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Have a master’s degree in Nursing, Health Education, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Health Care Administration, Public Health, or Community Health, or related majors. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by February 1, 2023.
  2. Have two years experience working in a health care setting or social services that provide mental health and wellness.
  3. Have two or more years experience in a leadership or administrative/management role.
  4. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
