Postdoctoral Scholar - Plant Bioinformatics

Job Description

A two-year post-doctoral position will be available to work on omics-data analysis in the laboratory of Dr. Hairong Wei at the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, Michigan Technological University. Research will focus on identifying regulatory and signaling networks and associated regulatory factors downstream of the Rop GTPase-TORC nutrient sensing and signaling relay using fundamental bioinformatics analysis and advanced statistical and mathematical modeling. Novel method development will be encouraged to facilitate the data modeling for identifying the target genes and network.

Michigan Tech attracts world-class staff and faculty who enrich the educational experience of smart, motivated, and adventurous students. Applicants who are committed to promoting a sense of belonging and contributing to an equitable and inclusive learning environment for all are strongly encouraged to apply (https://www.mtu.edu/diversity-inclusion/).

Dr. Wei's group has developed a series of tools and software pipelines for facilitating gene expression data analysis and knowledge discovery from omics data. For example, Top-down GGM Algorithm and Bottom-up GGM algorithm for constructing multilayered gene regulatory networks (GRNs), JRmGRN for constructing a cross-tissue GRN and multiple tissue-specific GRNs by modeling omics data from multiple tissues jointly, HB-PLS: Huber loss - Berhu penalty and Partial Least Squares for identifying pathway regulators, TF-Cluster for identifying regulatory genes that function in a collaborative network to regulate a biological process or a complex trait and Huber-ENET and Huber-Lasso for predicting the target genes of a transcription factor of interest.
