Job Summary:

Dr. Annette Regan’s research group in the University of San Francisco’s School of Nursing and Health Professions is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team. This position is available for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of continuation for a second year. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow is contingent upon donor funding. If at any time donor funds are exhausted or not meeting the requirements of the institute, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow position will be eliminated. The position is located in Orange, CA with the option to work remotely in the U.S.
Dr. Regan’s team carries out research on real-world evaluation of vaccines in support of global pediatric, adolescent and adult immunization programs. The team currently has federally and internationally funded research projects that aim to evaluate COVID-19 vaccines among adolescent and pregnant populations, including pharmacoepidemiologic studies of vaccine safety and effectiveness, scale development for measuring vaccine hesitancy constructs, and identification of factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy in special-risk groups.

Full Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will primarily support the team’s work performing real-world evaluation of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy. The Fellow will be responsible for collating, managing and analyzing private health insurance and Medicaid claims data as well as electronic health records to i) estimate coverage of COVID-19 vaccines before, during and after pregnancy; ii) estimate the effectiveness of maternal vaccination; ii) evaluate the incidence of adverse events of special interest among immunized pregnant individuals; and iii) conduct validation studies and perform sensitivity analyses to understand the validity of study findings.

The successful candidate will be expected to prepare study protocols and datasets, perform statistical analyses, communicate research findings to the scientific community, and assist in the supervision of masters-level research associates. The team is invested in the professional growth of all postgraduate trainee members, and the Fellow will additionally be expected to participate in trainings and networking opportunities, as recommended by the Principal Investigator.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop, prepare and refine study protocols
  • Perform quantitative data analysis independently using R, SAS or equivalent software
  • Lead and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts
  • Prepare presentations for presentation at scientific meetings and conferences
  • Prepare and present regular reports for research team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH) in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively within a remote team environment
  • Experience performing quantitative data analysis for epidemiological investigations or research
  • Strong equity lens, cultural humility and proven ability to work well in a diverse context.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience preparing reports for study teams or funding agencies
  • Previous experience working with large, administrative health datasets, specifically health insurance claims data
  • Familiarity with SQL programming
  • Ability to analyze data using R/R Studio
  • Successful completion of CITI Human Subjects Research course (either Biomedical or Social-Behavioral-Educational; can be completed upon hire)
