Summary

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) Summer Program in Quantitative Methods provides training opportunities in quantitative methods and statistics to a diverse, international constituency. We offer courses for graduate students, faculty, and researchers across a variety of disciplines including the social, behavioral, and health sciences.  Our annual training curriculum offers over 90 courses during the Spring/Summer semester.  The Summer Program’s annual training curriculum includes two three-week sessions, with more than 40 courses held on the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus. The Summer Program also offers short workshops that are one to two weeks in length and that are offered in-person at the Ann Arbor campus, at remote locations and partner institutions, and online.  Most of our courses and workshops are held in a hybrid format - in-person and online (synchronous and asynchronous) to increase accessibility and flexibility.

Responsibilities*

The Program Assistants provide instructional, hosting, and facilities support for Summer Program activities located on the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus at the Helen Newberry Residence, Ross School of Business, and other buildings across central campus. Program Assistants work closely as a team in coordination with Summer Program administrative staff to ensure the smooth operation of all Summer Program courses and events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Move and assemble miscellaneous large and small furniture, boxes of books and supplies, printed materials, air conditioners, and other Program items.
  • Assist with Program social events and picnics including event and picnic supplies acquisition, setup, and cleanup.
  • Assist with monitoring and proper functioning of Program buildings, including building openings, closings, and access.
  • Perform instructional support tasks for Summer Program staff, faculty and participants including mail runs, duplicating pick-up, supplies acquisition, and other support tasks as needed.
  • Set-up Summer Program Library, including inventory and catalog Program books and articles.
  • Perform book and article searches and acquisition at the University Library and on the web.
  • Process new books and articles for inclusion on Canvas websites for specific courses.
  • Assist Program faculty and attendees with other bibliographic needs.
  • Assist with Program audio-visual equipment setup.
  • Manage and update the weekly events calendar and display monitor.
  • Assist with Program office and clerical work as needed.
  • Assist with special projects.

Required Qualifications*

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including a positive, responsive customer service attitude and the demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage many tasks concurrently and set priorities.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lift boxes and move files up to 40 pounds.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of previous work experience in facilities or hosting.
  • Experience performing clerical, administrative, or logistical duties.
  • Previous experience with ICPSR Summer Program.

Work Schedule

This is a temporary position that requires in-person availability from June through August. Schedule and hours will vary, depending upon the applicant’s availability. The start date is Monday, June 5th and includes a mandatory orientation. The Program Assistants have the opportunity to work:

  • 20 hours a week (Monday through Friday) from Monday, June 5th through Friday, June 16th.  In-person.
  • 40 hours a week (including evenings and weekends) from Monday, June 19th through Sunday, August 6th.  In-person.
  • 20 hours a week (including evenings and weekends) from Monday, August 7th through Sunday, August 13th. In-person.

The Summer Program business hours starting June 5th, are Monday - Friday from 8AM - 8PM and  Saturday - Sunday from 11:00 AM-7:00 PM; flexible scheduling is available - morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts are available. Please indicate your availability and scheduling preferences in your cover letter. 

Background Screening
