Job Description

Summary

The Youth and Social Issues (YSI) program is hiring a team of coders to assist with the coding of National Death Index (NDI) data with survey respondents. Previously, NDI data was paired with study data in order to identify study subjects who may be deceased. The team of coders will assist in examining the death certificate matches from the NDI for each subject and determine which, if any, are the correct respondent. The goal is to code each study subject to determine if they are deceased or not and for which, possibly many, NDI death certificate match.

Responsibilities*

Using standardized coding procedures and multiple coders per subject we will examine over 20,000 study respondents. The coder's job will be to follow the steps in the coding procedure to investigate each respondent-death certificate match to determine if the respondent is deceased, and if they are which one of the death certificate(s) is confirmed as study respondents.

Note: we will hold an in-person training from 10-5 on a weekday once the full roster of coders has been identified. Attendance at this training is mandatory for the overall position.

Required Qualifications*

  • A cover letter is required describing your interest in the position and any related work experience
  • Minimum one year work experience
  • Prior experience working in MS Excel
  • Prior data entry experience
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to be coached and to take feedback constructively and a willingness to ask questions or obtain guidance, as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently
  • Ability to maintain high quality control standards
  • The ability to learn and apply highly complex coding protocols and rules
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience collecting data for research
  • Experience reviewing data to determine its accuracy
  • Genealogy research experience

Work Schedule

M-F, between 8-5pm; 12 to 30 hours a week
