Job Description

Summary

We are looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to join our cancer biology research group as a Research Laboratory Technician. The applicant must be confident, honest, a team-player, have a positive outlook, and be self-motivated to conduct experiments by themselves as well as work with other lab members and the PI. The candidate will work as part of a research team to functionally interrogate the role of tumor microenvironment in urologic cancer using in vitro and in vivo methods. The individual should be familiar with routine molecular biology techniques and have an educational background in biomedical sciences or related subjects. The candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), and trainees in the lab. She/he will play an integral role in both lab management and in ongoing studies. The Research Technician can expect excellent training, mentorship towards a scientific career and invaluable experience. The PI is highly supportive of recent graduates to transition to the next stages of their careers in graduate and medical school.

Responsibilities*

  • Routine monolayer cell culture maintenance: Culture adherent and suspension cells, plate cells for experiments, generate cryo-frozen stocks and maintain detailed record of the cell line bank.
  • In vitro characterization of drug lead compounds in cancer cell lines: Calculate of IC50, perform proliferation assays etc.
  • Functional assays: Perform protein and RNA extraction from cells and tumor tissue, Western blot, co-immunoprecipitation, qPCR, ELISA assay, gDNA extraction, FACS.
  • In vivo work (mice): tumor measuring, treatment with drugs; Subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and intra-cardiac injections of cells to generate tumor models. Bioluminescence Imaging, and tumor necropsy.
  • Other wet laboratory techniques or assays that may be required depending on how the project progresses.

Required Qualifications*

  • HS Diploma or Assoc degree
  • Basic cell and molecular biology background.
  • Basic molecular biology experimentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent documentation skills for research results.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and implement novel experimental techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety and ability to work carefully with potentially harmful agents.
  • Some research lab experience.
  • Willingness and ability to acquire new skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • BS/MS in biomedical sciences or related subjects.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Background Screening
