Responsibilities

Are you interested in performing cutting-edge research on the progression and treatment of cancer at a world-class cancer research institute? At the Center for Cancer Evolution (CCE) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute we are looking for a talented and motivated lab research technician to join in our research efforts to understand tumor evolution and response and identify optimal therapeutic interventions. You will be part of a team effort to explore and validate new ideas in oncology. As part of your work, you will evaluate new therapeutic targets, characterize cell and cell line properties, analyze clinical cancer tissue samples, perform lab maintenance, organization and documentation. As a lab technician, you will receive mentorship and training from CCE scientists and be exposed to leading techniques and models in the field.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable individual with a BA or BS degree (or set to graduate this spring) in a related field. Preference will be given to those with laboratory experience in molecular and cellular biology. Experience in cell culture, and with immunoblotting are desirable. In addition to technical and scientific knowledge, this individual should have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. The ability to work within a team, flexibility and responsibility are all key for this position. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will pursue advanced doctoral training (MD, PhD or MD/PhD) subsequent to this position. This is a full-time position; 40 hr/week.

 Specific duties would include:

  • Culturing of cell line models
  • Injection of cell lines into mice, administering pharmacologic agents to mice, monitoring tumor growth and harvesting and assaying tumors after drug treatment
  • Performing drug testing of cell line models in cell culture
  • Extraction and analysis of protein, DNA and mRNA from isolated materials
  • Evaluation of effects of specific therapies in model system through immunoblotting, staining and other proteomic experiments
  • Using general lab equipment
  • Data analysis and recording of results electronically and in a lab notebook
  • Prepare and writeup methods and procedures for publication
  • Prepare and maintain database of results
  • Working closely with a scientist who will serve as direct supervisor and mentor
  • Cooperating with a team of experimental and computational scientists
  • Managing ordering and stocking of laboratory supplies
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred. 
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
