Position Summary

The Applied Nematology laboratory of Dr. Marisol Quintanilla at Michigan State University, Department of Entomology invites applications for a Research Associate (postdoctoral) position studying control of plant parasitic nematodes and evaluating the impact of different control strategies on soil health.

The objective of the research is to evaluate strategies such as nematicides, compost, manures, cover crops, and biologicals on the control of important plant parasitic nematodes in Michigan crops.  In addition, the impact of these strategies on beneficial nematodes and other aspects of soil health will be evaluated.  The research will involve field, greenhouse, and laboratory components.  Knowledge of farming and farm machinery will be a great asset. 

The initial appointment is for one year with potential for renewal based on performance and availability of funding.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Nematology, Plant Pathology, Entomology


Minimum Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in Nematology, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agronomy or a related field.
  • Experience in nematology
  • Field experience
  • Publication record
  • Valid driver’s license

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience conducting research in Nematogy
  • Expertise in statistical analysis
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Mechanical skills, i.e. use of farm machinery
  • Interest in mentoring undergraduate research
