Position Description:

Postdoctoral position in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa


The Muzzio lab, which is part of the Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience (BCN) area  in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa (https://psychology.uiowa.edu/people/isabel-muzzio ) is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral scientists with expertise in in vivo techniques and computational analysis to investigate neurobiological mechanisms of learning and memory and navigation (for project descriptions see, https://muzzio.lab.uiowa.edu/ ). The research will be funded through the National Institute on Mental Health and National Science Foundation. The appointment will include full University of Iowa benefits.


Duties:
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the following:
• Manage, conduct, and coordinate research in the lab using the techniques listed above
• Handle all aspects of data collection and analysis
• Train graduate and undergraduate students and supervise their work and presentations
• Work efficiently with other lab members and collaborators
• Present findings at local and international meetings and attend regular lab meetings
• Maintain a good productivity record by publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals
• Contribute to grant application preparation and apply for external funding when opportunities arise

Education Requirement:

• PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology or related field.

Required Qualifications:

Requirements:
This position requires expertise with at least one of the following techniques, proficiency with stereotaxic surgeries using viral constructs, in vivo single unit recordings, calcium imaging using miniendoscopes, and/or chemogenetic/optogenetic approaches. Strong computational, statistical, and modeling background would be an asset. The ideal candidate must have a record of high productivity as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
