Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Web Developer for the The Office of Information Technology (OIT). The Web Developer is responsible for the development, deployment, administration, maintenance, and continuous operation of web sites and select web applications for departments under the purview of the New Brunswick Chancellor’s Office and their supporting infrastructure (web servers, database servers, application servers).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Participates in researching and promoting the adoption of new software and methodologies to improve the overall Unit.
  • Responsible for the administration, maintenance, and security of the web development infrastructure, including but not limited to the web sites/applications themselves, web servers, database servers, fileservers, application servers (Matomo, Jenkins, etc.). The UCS ensures that timely secured updates are performed, and service continuity is maintained.
  • Responsible for the design, redesign, development, deployment, maintenance of modern informational web sites running on Drupal content management system (CMS). This position engages on tasks involving theming, template design, the implementation of several elements (i.e. views, blocks, content types).
  • Responsible for research, development, and continuous implementation of industry trends and advances in technology to improve the web development infrastructure as well as the entirety of the Unit. This position is responsible for planning, design, and development, and if applicable, the integration of custom software tools to achieve this responsibility.
  • Responsible for being a web technology liaison and provide solutions to users within their support realm using existing applications that are either hosted in-house, within the University, or in the cloud by an outside provider.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with web development stakeholders of varying technical capabilities from other departments within their support realm. This position collaborates with counterparts elsewhere in the University to further Campus and University-wide initiatives and priorities.
  • Contributes to and maintains documentation of systems and procedures for staff internals, as well as staff from other departments within their support realm.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with directly applicable experience, or equivalent education and /or experience.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience.

  • Must have knowledge of shell scripting, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, SQL, and version control technologies and practices.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Drupal Content Management System, web design and development, and graphic design concepts.
  • Requires the ability to handle and prioritize competing tasks and multiple projects.
  • Must be able to assess and prioritize client’s needs and effectively communicate technical solutions to users whose technical expertise span from novice to expert.
  • Required to keep up with industry developments and evolving best practices.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
