The Center for Population Behavioral Health within the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH) (https://ifh.rutgers.edu) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research associate. The successful candidate will contribute to National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded aging research in older Asian Americans, with a focus on environmental, cultural, psychosocial factors related to mental, physical, and cognitive helth. The primary projects include secondary data analyses to investiage environmental and psychosocial factors related to health among older Chinese Americans. The postdoctoral research associate will be supervised by Dr. Yanping Jiang, core member at IFH and instructor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Rutgers University.

Training resources include the New Jersey Alliance for Clinical and Translational Science (NJ ACTS), which offers workshops on biostatistics (e.g., causal mediation) and monthly grant writing workshops, and the Faculty Mentoring and Learning Collaborative, which offers career development activities for early stage investigators. There are ample opportunities for collaboration with researchers across Rutgers centers, including Rutgers Asian Resource Center for Minority Aging Research and Rutgers-NYU Center for Asian Health Promotion and Equity, to conduct population health research among older Asian Americans.

he postdoctoral research associate will contribute to specific research projects that address health disparities among older Asian Americans. Duties include but are not limited to:
(1) Work with Principal Investigators to generate research ideas, conduct data analyses, draft manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at professional conferences. When called upon, the postdoctoral research associate will contribute to the development of research proposals;
 (2) Participate in research project team activities such as team meetings, sponsor communication, report generation, etc;
 (3) Takes initiative to share ideas and identify opportunities for project improvement
 (4) Manage research projects by collecting research information, developing project-related documents, and updating project status reports/tracking systems.
The postdoctoral research associate will be given the opportuity to advance her/his individual line of research inquiry, aligned with the Center’s research priorities. The postdoctoral research associate will also be expected to actively participate in mentorship activities and take advantage of educational/learning opportunities within the Rutgers academic community.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
The successful candidate should have excellent quantitative skills that would enable her/him to develop a strong peer-reviewed publication record using the dataset available within IFH. Strong data analysis skills are integral to this position including, for example, experience working with large, population-level data sets using Mplus, R, SPSS, or SAS, longitudinal analysis of health-related outcomes (e.g., latent growth curve modeling), moderation and mediation, and methods to handle missing data.
PhD in psychology, social work, public health, or a related field and relevant research experience are required in order to conduct longitudinal analyses for the research project(s).

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals , if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
