Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of five health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students, 100 PhD students, and 20 Master’s students. Position Summary
This position provides pre-award and post-award administrative support for all contracts and grants activity associated with research in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. This position serves to support faculty applications to granting agencies. The position also provides award support with regard to initial project set up, preparing progress reports, extension requests, and responding to requests from the sponsor or OSR. Work performed by the Grants Manager requires an understanding of the types of proposals and grant mechanisms used by funding agencies, the processes for application submission, as well as the terms and conditions of each request for proposal. This knowledge is necessary in order to communicate rules, regulations, and procedures, to faculty members, staff, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; as well as to provide support in contracts and grants administration for the School of Pharmacy. This individual will assist faculty with developing research proposals and follow School and University policies pertaining to application compilation. This position is expected to actively participate in the development stage of any grant proposal and will assist with pre-award processing and submission to the agency. Duties during the post-award phase include: performing post-award functions associated with charging personnel to the grant account, assisting with subcontract set-up, supporting faculty with submitting progress reports, requesting extensions, and responding to or making requests to funding agencies. These tasks require working closely with the School of Pharmacy’s Business and Human Resources Offices and with the Office of Sponsored Research throughout the life of the award.
The Office of Research Administration supports the ESOP faculty, postdocs, staff and students in procuring and managing external funding to support their research endeavors.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. 
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The successful candidate must have excellent organizational and communication skills, ability to work independently to execute well-defined business processes, and an attitude that looks to provide excellent service. 
The candidate must be proficient in Excel, MS Word and Adobe software applications. 
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master’s degree is preferred, also preferred is at least two years proposal submission/award management experience; familiarity with UNC Financial Systems, RAMSeS, and Cayuse as well as eRA Commons website is a plus.
