Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The UNC Neuroscience Center is an inter-departmental research center at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Our mission is to promote neuroscience research at UNC-Chapel Hill with an emphasis on developmental, genetic, and disease-related processes. |

Position Summary | The Scherrer Lab studies the molecular mechanisms and neural circuits that underlie pain perception and its control by opioids. The position is for a Laboratory Manager and the purpose is to support the research needs of the Scherrer lab that include lab management, lab maintenance, and administration. These duties include, but are not limited to, facilitating mouse import and export, ordering lab supplies, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining the lab website, facilitating new hiring, lab emergency response, managing and maintaining records and databases, hosting and facilitating lab meetings, lab waste management, day-to-day general lab upkeep and assistance, and any and all other tasks benefiting the overall research progress of the lab. The selected candidate will work with postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, research technicians, undergraduate students, and other researchers in the Scherrer Lab, as well as outside collaborators. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, fundamental scientific knowledge, and an ability to multitask, learn quickly, and adapt rapidly to novel tasks. Exceptional organizational and communication skills are required. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Strong work ethic, exceptionally organized, able to multitask, clear and effective communicator, able to work autonomously, intellectually vested in lab’s research goals. Prefer candidates with a bachelor’s degree in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or similar field. Previous work in a biological/biomedical wet lab is preferred. |
