Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Launched in 2013, the Department of Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is the first new science department in the College of Arts and Sciences in nearly 40 years. Including the Chapel Hill Analytical and Nanofabrication Laboratory (CHANL) and the graduate program in material sciences, Applied Physical Sciences has united numerous scientific entities on campus to further its mission of finding interdisciplinary solutions to real-world problems. Its newest endeavor, BeAM (Be A Maker), is a university-wide initiative that incorporates Making into research, education, and entrepreneurship. BeAM is comprised of several spaces, including a makerspace in Hanes Art Center, Carmichael Residence Hall, and a 3,400 square foot Makerspace in Murray Hall, all of which serve the entire UNC community.
Position Summary
The postdoc research will provide the postdoctoral research scholar the exposure to research activities that merge translational science and engineering efficiently, with a goal of building a track record of accomplishment through the research at the interface between materials engineering and medical technology. The opportunity will not only provide a platform with resources for leading a research project but also open extensive opportunities to participate on other multidisciplinary projects, many aspects of which may be outside of your primary focus area.
The primary purpose of this position is to pursue research in the field of bioelectronics and biomaterials integration. Key activities include leading research projects, participating in collaborations, participating in translational research, mentoring young researchers, and writing scientific manuscripts for publication, patent application, and grant proposals.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD degree or equivalent international degree, with strong background in materials science and engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering (or related discipline)
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The candidate should have a very solid background in microfabrication, materials processing, materials characterization, polymers physics.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be shown for a candidate with a strong interest in collaborative research, as this position involves multi-disciplinary work in materials science, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, nanotechnology, and biotechnology.
