Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) is now hiring a Manager of Facility Operations (Exempt), University of Maryland, College Park and directs all aspects of use of buildings, operations, repair, and general administration associated with the facilities and lab spaces.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Finance and Administration and will supervise employees, contractors and other personnel who perform maintenance, renovations or direct services to ARLIS space and buildings. In consultation with the DFA, the incumbent primarily serves as a liaison for facilities-related issues and is often the primary point of contact for ARLIS personnel and other customers within the assigned facility or facilities, and is responsible for investigating or coordinating responses for facilities problems, complaints, emergencies, special events or other facility issues or operations. He/she serves as the facility representative for ongoing/standing University-wide initiatives and committees. Working with University of Maryland Facilities Management and Office of Real Estate, coordinates facility planning initiatives (space usage, maintenance, alterations, or new construction), including developing budgets, project support and management, furniture or equipment and maintaining records, data or other relevant files associated with these activities. Accordingly, the Facility Manager will be required to be on-call as needed.

The incumbent oversees physical inventories of capital equipment, may act as the contact for safety and/or environmental related issues, or act as the facilities safety officer and acts as facilities liaison with University officials. Finally, he/she assures compliance with applicable UMD, local, state and federal regulatory requirements; supervises assigned employees, which includes planning, prioritizing and scheduling work tasks or action plans, and assuring all aspects of a safe work environment for assigned employees and customers.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • Active security clearance. Bachelor’s degree or a combination of experience and/or education. Six (6) to Ten (10) years of experience in construction and/or facility maintenance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Ability to complete/manage multiple tasks and projects of various sizes and intensity in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and people at all levels.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, with minimal direct supervision and work irregular hours.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files.

Applicants must be able to obtain a US security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment and military history.

Preferences:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with U.S. University operational policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with U.S. University and U.S. Government requirements for national security.
  • At least 6 years of experience in construction and/or facility maintenance.
  • Experience with digital records management.
