Job Description

This position serves several primary roles: Financial oversight of the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship and the Technical Entrepreneurship and Management (TEAM) Master’s degree program and assist the Executive Director in initiating, organizing and submitting written proposals for grants and contracts. Performs human resource responsibilities: processing and creating HR forms, reviewing and approving payroll as well as professional accounting work with responsibility in financial reporting, cost analysis, and distribution, knowledge of university systems and programs, Workday, UR Financials, Procure to Pay, IORA, P-Card and sponsored program accounting. Must be CLASP trained (or must obtain certification in a reasonable amount of time after assuming role) and maintain that certification by meeting continuous learning requirements.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

With broad latitude for independent action and decision making, the Senior Accountant is/will:

  • Ensure fiscal control, use of the University's computerized encumbrance accounting system and UR Financials • Reconcile with University reports, problem resolution, and analysis of revenue and expense trends and variances
  • Evaluate and analyze budget information for appropriateness, exemptions, trends, and accuracy.
  • Development of proposal budgets and interact with faculty regarding the utilization of funds from externally supported projects.
  • Assist Executive Director of Ain Center in initiating, organizing and submitting written proposals for grants and assist with pre-award initiative in the IORA system. Prepare financial budgets for pre-award proposals.
  • Develop budgets and report impact on year-end forecast & risks/opportunities
  • Ensure all pre and post-award proposals are in accordance with sponsor guidelines, OMB and university policies
  • Prepare expenses on all accounts (operating, endowment, gifts, research) including T&C, P-Card, P2P, Salary, Reimbursements, and others.
  • Close interface with numerous stakeholders internally and externally
  • Manage human resource responsibilities, including timekeeping approval, payroll, evaluate changes in staff job responsibilities and develop requests for new positions and job reclassifications
  • Assist Executive Director with developing departmental policies and procedures
  • Monitor and communicate changes in university personnel policies and procedures to staff and management

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

At least 3 years financial experience and must be CLASP certified (or must be obtained in a reasonable amount of time after assuming role). Demands motivation, flexibility, ability to work independently and use of good judgment. Appropriately handles sensitive and confidential material as well as able to handle multiple priority assignments at once.

Technical:

Working knowledge of computer applications to support financial analysis and tracking is essential.
