Position Specific Responsibilities
The College of Health Professions (CHP) Dean’s Office is inviting applications for a Budget and Accounting Specialist. This position reports to the CHP Business Manager and is responsible for maintaining currency with the University policy and processes which impact budget/financial operations; changes in the Human Resources systems; and providing direct support and training for CHP personnel who are responsible for budget/finance and personnel work within their units as needed to facilitate their ability to appropriately use University systems and procedures. Additionally, this position is responsible for the Dean’s Office day-to-day budget and financial activity including reconciliation of financial statements, purchasing and accounts payable; and will provide the record keeping required to manage appointments for lecturer and graduate teaching assistant positions in the CHP. This position will also participate on the Dean’s leadership team.

Summary of Responsibilities
Develops and implements budget tracking, analysis, and forecasting to assist a department(s) with multiple revenue and expense accounts to meet their current and future financial obligations and goals. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Provides data and support to leadership.

Essential Functions
Manages multiple revenue and expense lines which may include non-grant, grant, and external funding sources.
Researches and facilitates compliance with University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations to ensure monies are managed properly, as well as within requirements of the contract, grant, client or sponsor.
Provides reports, proposals, and analyses for leaders to utilize in financial decision-making.
Prepares financial forecasts and reports and provides training.

Requirements

 

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field by hire date

Preferred Education

 
Minimum Experience
Two (2) years of experience in accounting, budget, finance or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1) Ability to extract, analyze and transmit complex information from varied sources
2) Proven ability to work within a fast-paced work environment including excellent time management and organizational skills with a high attention to detail
3) Ability to work under broad guidelines with limited instructions, determine and organize steps required to accomplish tasks, reprioritize as necessary to accomplish tasks with deadlines
4) High level of experience with Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook
5) Ability to compute, verify and compare figures and detect discrepancies in information or records
6) Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in an environment consisting of diverse individuals from varying backgrounds and cultures
