Director of Development

LEDC Description: The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) community development organization founded in 1991. LEDC is a fast-paced and growing nonprofit. It applies a racial/ethnic equity lens to its work and its mission is to drive the economic and social advancement of low to moderate-income Latinos and other underserved residents by providing them with the skills and tools they need to achieve financial independence and become leaders in their communities. Its main program areas include Small Business Development, Financing, Housing Counselling, Affordable Housing Preservation (through Tenant Organizing), and Direct Community Investments. LEDC is headquartered in Washington, DC, and has satellite offices in Wheaton, MD; Baltimore, MD; Arlington, MD; and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Position Description: This senior management position, reports to the Executive Director/CEO. The position is designed to oversee development/fundraising, grants management, communications, and program evaluation, and lead proposal writing and production. The Director of Development collaborates with the ED/CEO in the development and execution of the organization's revenue plan. The Development Director oversees a team that includes two managers and two associates. The Development Director leads proposal writing, and, along with the ED/CEO, also provides quality control/final review over all proposals and external communications that bear the LEDC brand. This position offers a mix of in-person and remote work.

Duties include:

  • Draft annual fundraising, communications, and evaluation work plans in collaboration with ED/CEO, development-evaluation, and communications managers
  • Train and manage Development-Evaluation and Communications Associates and Managers
  • Serve as a member of LEDC's Leadership Team which includes the Executive Director/CEO, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Operations, Chief of Housing Programs, and Chief of Small Business Services
  • Facilitate communication/transfer of information/knowledge between program and development teams
  • Oversee all LEDC fundraising activities and processes, which are primarily proposal/grant based
  • Lead proposal writing and oversee proposal production processes and submission
  • Oversee and monitor grant reporting and pertinent processes, including reviewing and editing key reports
  • Track and report on fundraising achievement/progress
  • Oversee collaboration between communications staff and program teams in the creation of marketing and outreach materials
  • Support communications and program teams in the tracking of advocacy efforts that impact resources on which organization and client base relies
  • Oversee LEDC compliance with local, state, and federal agencies
  • Oversee opportunities for program evaluation that inform LEDC proposals, communications, and reports. Collaborate with program teams in the design of data collection tools, data collection, and analysis
  • Primary staff liaison to the Board of Director's Development Committee
  • Oversee special events, including an annual online fundraiser for LEDC

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from a four-year accredited college. Minimum of five years experience in fundraising, including proposal writing for government, corporate, and foundation support. Excellent English verbal and written communications skills. Management experience. High-level critical and strategic thinking. Fast-paced and sound decision-making. Strong organizational skills, especially close attention to detail. Strong knowledge and appreciation of Latino culture and the immigrant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in social sciences, public policy, non-profit/public administration, business, or other related fields. Five or more years of fundraising experience via proposal writing. Knowledge of public and private grantmakers. General knowledge of the Washington Metro Area and its Latino population. Knowledge of Community Development Block Grants and other federally sourced grants. Knowledge of Community Development Finance Institutions and SBA Microloan Intermediaries. Knowledge of federal, state, and local government grant-making practices. Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience plus full individual health benefits, 401(k), 4 weeks of paid annual leave, and teleworking available (presently only one day required in office).
