About the Department

Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less (ESMMWL) is a weight-management program that uses strategies proven to work. Each lesson informs, empowers, and motivates participants to live mindfully as they make choices about eating and physical activity. The program provides opportunities for participants to track their progress and keep a journal of healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. The program can be offered to work-sites and other groups interested in eating smart, moving more, and achieving a healthy weight.

Essential Job Duties

This position will serve as the Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less Program and Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes Data Manager and work closely with the Program Manager and other team members to help collect and analyze data. This position will also provide technical assistance and serve as the liaison to IT vendors. Duties will include but not be limited to:
  • Work closely with program manager to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner to meet contract deliverables and deadlines.
  • Lead program evaluation and data analysis for the programs including development of evaluation databases and generate program outcome reports.
  • Provide quality and timely evaluation expertise for the programs, including but not limited to:
    • Creating class series specific evaluation surveys on an ongoing basis for instructors.
    • Ensuring all participant data is collected and stored appropriately.
    • Creating and maintaining codebooks and value labels for all databases.
    • Maintaining up-to date copies of all databases and online evaluation surveys.
    • Maintaining clean backup copies of all databases on a secured external drive.
  • Lead preparation of Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less and Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes participant outcomes reports as indicated in agreements with various clients as well as provide timely program data for grants administered by partner organization(s).
  • Work closely with DPP coordinator to provide oversight for data collection and data reporting by sub-contracted onsite DPP providers as part of the BCBSNC community DPP grant.
  • Provide consultation for data collection and analysis while onboarding new clients and prepare targeted outcome reports for specific clients as requested.
  • Prepare and successfully submit Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes data for both online and onsite programs to the CDC every six months and closely monitor achievement of benchmarks to maintain CDC-recognition for the program.
  • Create detailed annual reports for program instructors to individually share participant feedback collected from evaluation surveys as well as outcomes data from Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes classes.
  • Assist with writing and submission of manuscripts to share program outcomes and lessons learned in peer-reviewed literature as well as outline abstracts/posters for presentations at professional conferences of interest. 
  • Serve as contact with NCSU’s Department of Statistics for in-depth data analysis as needed for research papers, abstracts, grant applications, etc.
  • Assist the team with reviewing and negotiating of contracts and service agreements with clients to ensure all data collection, reporting and security protocols are well-outlined and acceptable.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining in-network provider contracts with BCBSNC and other insurance providers as indicated by program needs.
  • Manage credentialing process and file all related paperwork for program instructors to ensure they are in-network providers with BCBSNC (or other insurance companies) for the purposes of claims filing.
  • Manage claims submissions and track incoming payments for both programs as indicated in service agreements with clients. 
  • Follow-up on denied or unpaid claims as necessary and re-submit claims in a timely manner. Claim categories include, but not limited to:
    • ASO member claims for Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less (BCBSNC).
    • Telehealth GNC claims for Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less (BCBSNC).
    • Fully-insured member claims for Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes (BCBSNC).
    • Emory employees enrolled in Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less (Aetna).
  • Serve as liaison and hold regular meetings with program web developers to ensure program websites, online registration systems and participant portals are up-to-date, functional and meet ongoing program needs.
  • Serve as primary contact for the web hosting company for oversight of program servers.
  • Serve as point-of-contact for HIPAA compliance and maintain a comprehensive data security policy that adheres to all NCSU requirements and utilizes best practices within the field.
    • Complete technical and security questionnaires for BCBSNC and other clients in a timely manner.
    • Conduct annual review of information security protocols and disaster recovery documentation.
    • Communicate with NCSU’s OIT, OGC or other entities as needed to maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Lead the process to identify an appropriate vendor and oversee implementation of an annual penetration testing for the program servers and websites as indicated in agreements.
  • Lead the submission and continuation of IRB as needed.
  • Assist with participant data collection and compile a final report for the annual Holiday Challenge.
  • Assist the team with providing technical support to participants enrolled in real-time, online classes.
  • Attend and report at regularly scheduled team meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a health-related field (Public Health, Social Work) or data management field
  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Experience with collecting data and conducting data analysis as well as research.

Other Required Qualifications

  • The applicant must be self-initiating and able to multi-task effectively and efficiently in a complex environment.
  • A successful candidate will be one that is a team player and able to work with a diverse group of team members to meet program goals.
  • Experience with assisting a multi-functional program team and successfully completing a variety of data analysis and IT support related tasks.
  • Proficiency with MS-Excel and statistical software (such as SPSS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DPRP data submission for CDC-recognized diabetes prevention program.
  • Experience with claims submission to insurance providers.
  • Experience with program marketing.
