This is a temporary position in CASTLE HAYNE, NC, near WILMINGTON. Please do not apply unless you live near CASTLE HAYNE, NC or are willing to commute on a daily basis.
This position is a student intern position for students to gain experience in all aspects of blueberry research.
Part time student interns will be needed to help in all aspects of blueberry breeding research. The interns will work in the greenhouse and shade house to help maintain healthy plants, inventory, harvest, collect data, perform pollinations, transplant seedlings and rooted cuttings, prune, weed, and fertilize. Field work will include planting, harvesting, and data collection. Laboratory work includes maintaining the tissue culture lab, making media, transferring cultures onto new media, and sticking explants for rooting. Some office work such as data entry and image labeling for a machine learning project.

Schedule:
Schedule is largely flexible between 7am to 6pm weekdays and will range from 10-20 hours per week from September through March, and 20+ hours per week from April to August.

- Ability to perform redundant tasks with care and to completion
- Good attention to detail
- Excellent fine motor skills
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Applicant should have some knowledge on:
- Plant care
- Using laboratory equipment such as scales, balances, and autoclaves
- Use and calibration of pH meters
- Making dilutions
- Excel or Google Sheets
- Aseptic techniques
Required License or Certification
- Valid driver’s license
