The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.


Job Summary
 

The Research Technician will be tasked with broadly supporting the laboratory through close collaboration with the PIs, postdoctoral fellows, graduate student(s) and laboratory manager within the Section of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine.
The Izumchenko-Agrawal Laboratory focuses on understanding the complex interplay between the genetic and epigenetic alterations and head and neck progression, and on exploiting this understanding for developing novel biomarkers for diagnosis and risk stratification, as well as in identifying targets for therapeutic intervention. Drs. Izumchenko and Agrawal work collaboratively with the group of investigators with complementary and integrated expertise including surgeons, clinical oncologists, pathologists and computational biologists.

Responsibilities

  • Work with cancer cell lines and animal models and, under the supervision of PI or postdoctoral fellow, carries out various in vitro and in vivo experiments.  

  • Perform in vitro experiments including, but not limited to: Western immunoblotting, DNA/RNA isolation and quantitative RT-PCR, cell line transfection, and proliferation assays.

  • Extracts DNA/RNA from preserved patient tissue samples.

  • Work with others in the lab to help maintain the mouse colonies. 

  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.

  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
