Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The junior full-stack engineer is responsible for building and maintaining tier-two traffic sites such as University Relations, Maryland Day, and Homecoming. In addition, the position contributes to tier-one properties such as umd.edu and alumni.umd.edu with web components built using custom elements or React components. 
The position requires a good understanding of accessibility best practices and content modeling. The team’s core tech stack is Javascript/Typescript/React, HTML, CSS, and PHP. In addition, we primarily use CraftCMS or Drupal for content management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of four years of programming experience.
  • A minimum of two years of experience building user interfaces with HTML & CSS.
  • A minimum of one year of experience with Javascript – using vanilla JS and frameworks such as React.
  • A minimum of one years of experience with server-side code – Node, PHP, Python, Ruby, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Basic server-side experience with PHP or Node.
  • Proficient understanding in WCAG 2.1 and aria-* usage.
  • Bundling experience – specifically with Webpack.
  • Problem solver.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience with CraftCMS and/or Drupal.
  • Experience building Web Components.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (Creative Cloud, Figma, Sketch, etc.).
  • Experience with AWS: EC2 (Amazon Linux 2), RDS, S3, IAM, Route 53, etc.
  • Experience with s: Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with open source.
