JOB
Under general direction, the Laboratory Preschool Cook is responsible for the full range of duties associated with the implementation of a daily nutrition program for infant and toddler children. This position will also support the preschool and school age food program as needed. The part-time Cook will prepare meals and create menu plans for breakfast, lunch, and snack; food and food supply shopping, order, and receive and inventory; food preparation, cooking, and dispensing; clean up; maintenance and organization of equipment, utensils, work, and storage areas. Additional planning and preparation required for children with special dietary needs and/or restrictions.
 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reads and follows local, state and national requirements on nutrition;Follows state and national food guidelines for serving sizes and allowable foods;Maintains menus and shopping list/market orders;Prepares foods based on allergy or religious food restrictions, as applicable;Prepares and serves breakfast and lunch;Prepares afternoon snacks that will be served by staff;?Maintains proper hygiene for food handling;Ensures that each meal is ready to be served when scheduled;Cleans and maintains kitchen and eating areas in a sanitary, safe and organized manner as required by the Center and health department;Assists with ordering food and is able to calculate the amount needed;Attends all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions;Assists in other capacities that Director, or designee, determines is necessary;Adheres to and complies with all relevant federal, state, and local lawsadhere to all institutional policies and guidelines, including the provisions of the employee?s relevant employee handbook; adhere to and comply with the relevant provisions of the WV State Ethics Act; adhere to all safety rules and provisions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of state and federal fingerprint-based criminal background investigation(s); ?Successful completion of state-based child and adult abuse and neglect registry check(s);Successful completion of sex offender registry check(s);Provide an acceptable TB risk test resultMust meet basic requirements of local child care and food service regulatory agenciesAbility to relate positively to young children is essentialExcellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma/GED required; associate or higher degree preferred. Must hold a current Food Handler?s Card. Previous experience in quantity food preparation is preferred.
