Overview
The Labor Education and Research Now (LEARN) unit is a division of the department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations within the School of Management and Labor Relations. As a division of Rutgers’ Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations, LEARN offers a wide range of noncredit and continuing education and training programs for union members and management representatives, as well as the organizations and professions that are associated with these groups. LEARN students are emerging leaders across the state of New Jersey who want to enhance their personal knowledge and workplace skills. The Union Leadership Academy (ULA) is LEARN’s two year certificate program serving the labor community in six different locations across New Jersey. Graduation from ULA requires students to take eight (8) six-week classes to complete. LEARN also has two certificate programs consisting of one day classes in Public Sector Labor Relations and Employment Law for Union Representatives and Attorneys. LEARN also provides customized training and workshops as requested by the communities we serve. By way of example, LEARN has conducted shop steward training for IUOE Local 68, Hearing Officer Training for the City of Jersey City, Leadership Training for AFT, Executive Board Leadership Training for NJIT PSA/AAUP.LEARN provides custom workshops in a variety of topics.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator I. The position supports the Director of LEARN and is primarily responsible for organization, administration, and coordination in the areas of student recruitment, instructor support, reception, registration, non-credit services, conference and event services and logistics, and general duties for LEARN.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for outreach to the labor and management communities including attending the NJ AFL-CIO convention, direct marketing to labor and employment attorneys in person and via email regarding opportunities for Continuing Legal Education Credit programs. LEARN intends to expand by offering an additional certificate program with the EPE and increasing enrollment in the ULA.
  • Plays a key role in maintaining and expanding the reach of LEARN’s key objectives. Currently, LEARN only has one other fully dedicated position (Director) and part-time assistance from another faculty member.
  • Be the “face” of LEARN and requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Support the Director of the Center for the Study of Collaboration in Work and Society and is primarily responsible for organization, administration, and coordination of the capacity building program for the NJ Public Schools Collaborative in the areas of instructor support, logistics, and general administrative support.
  • Serves as liaison with Rutgers units as well as outside organizations in the administration and marketing of LEARN programs.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must handle multiple concurrent tasks and deal with constant interruptions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to defuse stressful situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a collegiate setting involving adult life-long learning is especially valuable.
Equipment Utilized
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, ANCOR, EMS, HCM, Constant Contact and Access.
  • Knowledge of website management.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
