Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lead Web Developer for the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Reporting to the Senior Director of Information Technology for the New Brunswick Chancellor’s Office IT Services (NBITS), the Lead Web Developer is responsible for managing and leading the web development operation for the departments under the purview of the New Brunswick Chancellor’s Office, who in turn is responsible for maintaining day-to-day operations of various web sites/web applications for the departments under the purview of the New Brunswick Chancellor’s Office.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for leading and implementing technology projects, providing innovation, and enforcing best practices while working closely with stakeholders to build web experiences that show business results.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operational continuity of web services through the administration, maintenance, and security of the web development infrastructure, including but not limited to the web sites/application themselves, web servers, database servers, fileservers, applications servers (GitHub, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Responsible for leading technology projects, including implementation of industry trends and advances in technology to improve the web development infrastructure for departments under the support realm of New Brunswick Chancellor’s Office IT Services (NBITS), as well as the entirety of NBITS itself. This includes planning, implementation, and provisioning of technical support to stakeholders, as well as necessary documentation. This position is also responsible for project timelines and resources.
  • Responsible for the management of web operation staff members to ensure operational continuity of web services and successful project implementation. This position participates in the hiring, evaluation of, and development of staff to ensure that they receive adequate training, learn new skills, and stay relevant with technology trends and best practices that are necessary for the web operation.
  • Responsible for providing input in drafting policies and procedures, and its implementation if and when approved by relevant stakeholders. This position is then responsible for ensuring adherence to those policies and procedures.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with directly applicable experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
  • A minimum three years’ experience in planning and successful implementation of technology.

  • Must have demonstrated ability working with cross-functional teams.
  • Must have a demonstrated experience in managing and leading technical teams.
  • Requires the ability to handle and prioritize competing tasks and multiple projects.
  • Must be able to assess and prioritize client’s needs and effectively communicate technical solutions to users whose technical expertise span from novice to expert.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of Drupal programming, administration, and platform management.
  • Must have keen understanding of web standards, privacy, usability, and accessibility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Windows Servers

  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools

Immunization Requirements
