Position Description: | The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, in the Carver College of Medicine, at the University of Iowa, invites applicants for a Research Assistant Professor position in animal models of disease at the Assistant Professor level. This position includes a renewable 3-year appointment, fringe benefits, and state-of-the-art laboratory and core facilities. The primary appointment of the faculty member will be in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and to participate in teaching activities in the Department. The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology consists of 21 primary and 8 secondary faculty members with strengths in cell and developmental biology, neurobiology, cancer biology, vascular biology, stem-cell biology, molecular medicine and gene therapy. The department is also the administrative home of the University's Gene Therapy Center, an entity that funds, and otherwise supports, research in molecular medicine, with a particular emphasis on the development of genetic therapies for Cystic Fibrosis. Education Requirement: | All applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. |
Required Qualifications: | Postdoctoral training in microbiology, generation of genetically engineered animal models, biomedical research experience, and a strong record of research accomplishments. Applicants at the Research Assistant Professor level must establish funded research programs and demonstrate the ability to mentor and teach Ph.D. graduate students. |
Desirable Qualifications: | Although all areas of animal modeling will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants using cutting-edge zygote genetic engineering approaches to generate human diseases animal models, to study medically relevant diseases using ferrets in genetically engineered models. |
