Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Institutional Research, Planning & Assessment seeks a Data Analyst to respond to institutional needs for policy analysis, mandated reporting, assessment, and evaluation. As part of the office’s Assessment & Strategic Analytics team, the Data Analyst performs analysis, interpretation, and visualization of complex data sources to inform decision-making at all levels of the university.
The Data Analyst is responsible for the design and execution of data and policy analyses. The Data Analyst prepares, analyzes, interprets, and visualizes data from multiple, complex institutional and survey data sets to develop reports for internal and external audiences. They collaborate with institutional stakeholders to create compelling, data-driven stories to facilitate institutional improvement and student success. They also serve as a liaison to colleges and provide subject area expertise on specific topics.
As a highly collaborative team, members of this office work in-person from an on-campus location.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in higher education, social sciences, mathematics, statistics, or related field. 
  • At least 2 years’ experience full time (or equivalent part-time) in a data management or data analytics related role, with a track record of analyzing complex data sets with descriptive data analysis techniques. Experience querying databases and large data sets to combine and manipulate data (e.g., import data, assess missingness, filter, transform variables, derive variables) using data extraction tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated expertise in reporting, querying or analysis tools; and presentation of data across a variety of mediums. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to work in team and group environments are essential.
  • Active eligibility to work in the United States.

Preferences:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in higher education, social sciences, mathematics, statistics, or related field.
  • Experience applying research findings in an applied setting, especially one related to higher education in the U.S. Experience reporting and analyzing data within a context of diversity and intersectionality. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with the following data extraction tools: SAS, SPSS, R or SQL; familiarity with business intelligence tools, such as Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, or PowerBI; experience in development and presentation of data analysis and statistical reports; use of large data sets or data warehouses; expertise in statistical methods; applied or professional training in analysis, visualization, or evaluation. 
  • Experience in higher education (e.g., institutional research, educational research), particularly finance, student, or faculty information.
