Postdoctoral Research Assistant
Job Description
Job Summary
Postdoctoral fellowship focused on sensory cues in word learning and recognition
Infant Speech Lab
Join an interdisciplinary and dynamic international team working to carry out a funded project which will explore how multisensory cues impact word learning and recognition. This work will allow us to answer fundamental questions about how different (and different numbers of) sensory cues might impact word learning and how humans use such cues with their words in interactions with infants worldwide. For example, we might ask whether gustatory cues linked with an object support learning of associated words more than olfactory, visual, and tactile cues or whether caregivers in different cultures talk more or less about different sensory cues when interacting with infants. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to integrate and develop independent projects within the scope of the project, to think about ways in which sensory cues might be exploited in clinical approaches, and to develop as a scholar within a supportive, collaborative, diverse, welcoming, and stimulating environment.
The position is full-time, with an initial appointment for one year, and renewal is possible pending satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Salary will be according to the NIH postdoctoral scale, and benefits are provided. Applications will be continuously reviewed starting February 15th. Preferred start date anytime between July 2023 and September 2023.
Requirements
- Research interests in early language acquisition, word learning, and sensory cues
- PhD in a broadly related field (e.g., cognitive science, computer science, psychology, learning sciences, linguistics, speech-language-hearing sciences)
- Solid scientific communication and data analytic skills
- Ability to complete analytical coding environments such as R / python
