Institutional Strategy and AnalysisAbout the Department
As NC State’s central office and authoritative source for institutional reporting and analytics, Institutional Strategy and Analysis (ISA) supports the university’s strategic decisions, planning activities, operations, evaluation efforts, and accountability by providing consistent, reliable information and analysis to university leaders, administrators, faculty and staff, students, external stakeholders, and the public. In carrying out its mission, ISA:
- Collects, analyzes, interprets, models, and reports information about NC State
- Manages institutional strategic planning, including implementation planning and metrics for the university strategic plan
- Provides leadership in governance and strategy with respect to the university’s academic and administrative data
- Administers, analyzes, supports, and oversees institutional surveys
- Supports, administers, and maintains applicable data structures, applications, and systems
Essential Job Duties
- Provide analysis and consultation on a variety of administrative-related matters, applying subject matter knowledge to support institutional decisions and institutional effectiveness through research and fact-finding combined with an understanding of applicable business processes, systems, and data sources.
- Prepare briefings, reports, and presentations of analyses and research findings. Scope of responsibility includes all phases of a project from design to data gathering, tabulation and analysis of relevant information, report drafting, and presentation. Written reports and presentations typically include context, evidence, conclusions, and recommendations for action.
- Work on topics that are increasingly complex and on matters that have significant impact to institutional operations.
- Assist Institutional Analytics, Business Intelligence, Data Governance, and other ISA teams with data and analytical needs and contribute to cross-functional and/or cross-organizational project teams as directed.
- Design, collect, analyze, and research institutional data according to established procedures and regulations, observing professional, ethical, legal, and policy standards for data security, privacy, and confidentiality.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
- At least two years’ experience in higher education, government, or research/policy organization in a role that includes research or analytical functions.
Other Required Qualifications
- Experience producing written analytical papers, reports, or briefings
- Experience using analytical or statistical applications to clean, transform, and analyze data
- Knowledge of and experience with statistical concepts and techniques
- Knowledge of higher education issues, especially issues faced by public and/or research institutions
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, presentation, and interpersonal communications
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Self-motivated, with high standards for rigorous and detailed work
- Ability to work independently and to collaborate with others in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an institutional research office, especially in a public university
- Experience with SAS or SAS certification
