Summary of Job Duties:

*This position is exposed to laboratory animals*
A Post-Doctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Storrie at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology (https://physiology.uams.edu/).The Storrie laboratory focuses on the underlying role of platelets in determining the structure of differentiated platelet aggregates, thrombi, in bleeding cessation and the formation of occlusive clots. The in vivo work with mouse models reveals that thrombus formation is structured through the generation of multiple platelet activation states. These findings raise new questions that are best answered through ex vivo approaches and labeled plaetelet tracking in vivo models. The applicant would receive training and develop techniques in platelet biology, large scale, quantitative image analysis and in vitro analysis of cell differentiation in a cell system in which platelet differentiation occurs without a change in gene expression.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physiology or related field required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must work closely with various laboratory animal specimens.

  • Experience in wet lab research.

  • Backgrounds in either biological sciences with an emphasis on cell and molecular biology approaches or from those bioinformatics/bioengineering/physics/mathematical modeling.

  • Must be highly motivated.

Readouts include fluorescence, super-resolution, and two photon light microscopy and electron microscopy. A specialty of the laboratory has been the generation of large data sets through structural approaches as wide area transmission electron microscopy.

  • Analyze large-scale image sets as part of the research would be facilitated through pipeline driven analysis and an ability to write scripts in languages such as Python.
