Position Focus:

This position carries out research activities in the laboratory; Participates in the synthesis and biological evaluation of novel PET radiotracers and translation to human use. Perform independent research, experiments, and laboratory work. Responsible for laboratory upkeep and safety measures. Duties include: Working closely with the principal investigators of research projects in the management and execution of research activities. Manage and carry out the evaluation, implementation and translation of novel PET radiotracers for preclinical and clinical research studies through the development, optimization, and validation of novel radiosynthesis protocols. Manages and carries out the development, optimization and implementation of analytical methods for characterization of metabolites in biological matrixes. Participates in the supervision and training of new members of the research team including postdoctoral fellows, visiting scientists, and students. Manages and coordinates scheduling of research activities. Manages and participates in the production, purification and quality control of PET radiotracers for use in clinical research projects. Manages, operates, maintains, and calibrates laboratory equipment, instruments and devices. Manages and maintains accurate records of methods, results and observations in scientific experiments. Manages and maintains required service contracts for laboratory equipment and instruments. Participates in and contributes to the writing of conference abstracts, project reports manuscripts, research grant applications. Manages and participates in the preparation of regulatory documents for submission of Investigational New Drug (IND) applications to the FDA, for example, preparation of documents for Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC). Manages and participates in quality assurance activities in the radiochemistry laboratory. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Duties

1. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning 3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. 4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. 6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. 7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
