Overview

The Junior Graphic Designer reports directly to the Associate Art Director. As a member of the design and production group within the Communications and Marketing Department, they will design a full range of projects including “Inside the Institute” (a monthly staff newspaper), print and digital design collateral, social media content – including animations, videos, infographics and other assets. They will also support other members of the group as needed.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design consistent high-quality print and digital collateral following Institute graphic standards.
  • Design “Inside the Institute” a monthly staff newspaper under the guidance of the Associate Art Director
  • Design dynamic social media content, such as animations, videos, infographics, IG carousal posts and other social media assets in collaboration with the design and social media teams
  • Review final proofs for all print materials for accuracy and high quality
  • Assist with design of features and supporting graphics for print and digital publications.
  • Direct and collaborate with photographer on photo-shoots in consultation with senior designer staff
  • Assist production manager in assigning print vendors and freelance photographers as needed
  • Assist photographer in maintaining the Institute digital image archive (Portfolio)
  • Basic knowledge and ability in website design, including wireframe navigation and page execution.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director, Workforce Development with content creation and asset management of the digital signage system
  • Collaborate with department and client teams to ensure efficient flow of information and projects

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

BFA, or BA with a focus on graphic design and 2-3 years of experience are required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated excellent understanding and application of design principles
  • Strong typography skills
  • Excellent design concept skills
  • High fluency in digital design
  • Adept in key Adobe Creative Suite products including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects
  • Fluency in Mac-based systems
  • Knowledge of photography helpful, but not mandatory
  • Illustration skills helpful, but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of video production and editing tools (Adobe Premier) is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Some pre-press knowledge is helpful but not essential
  • Knowledge of web-authoring software helpful, but not mandatory, (ie. Dreamweaver, Flash, HTML)
