Overview

Reporting to Director of Strategic Planning for Early Cancer Detection and Prevention Dr. Sapna Syngal, the Clinical Research Director is a key member of InAdvance: a Dana-Farber strategic initiative to stop cancer before it starts. InAdvance aims to redefine the cancer experience by precision prevention, early detection, and interception. The Director is a key member of the InAdvance leadership team, which includes the Executive Director and faculty leads. The Director is responsible for executing the scientific strategy for InAdvance in close partnership with faculty leadership and works collaboratively to launch and oversee research studies with multi-disciplinary teams. 

Responsibilities

  • Executes the scientific strategy for InAdvance in close partnership with faculty leadership. Works collaboratively to launch research studies with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Oversees data collection and data quality throughout the program and sample processing and storage.
  • Responsible for securing funding and grant writing, planning and executing large-multi-year studies, and developing new models of care.
  • Coordinates research review and administers pilot feasibility projects.
  • Co-leads the monthly InAdvance disease center Champions meetings in partnership with the faculty. Builds collaborative partnerships with InAdvance clinical champions and researchers at DFCI and external partners.
  • Responsible for the supervision, management and mentorship of research staff.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required.
  • 12 years of related research experience required.
  • 5 years of management responsibility required.
  • Expertise in data management; ability to oversee data collection, data management, and data quality of large-scale institutional databases. Ability to curate and present findings.   
  • Strong track record of success in obtaining grants and publishing findings.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience working in teams. 
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, team-centered mentality.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.
  • Ability to work on significant and unique issues that may impact future concepts, products or technologies on a broader scope than just one unit.
  • Ability to exercise latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.
  • Ability to work on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Ability to exercise judgement within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
