If so, we are seeking someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking a Biology Lab Technician for our Biological Sciences Group, residing within the Research & Exploratory Development Department (REDD).

 

The Biology Lab Technician will support multiple technical thrust areas across our group. As part of the Research & Exploratory Development Department, our group conducts basic and applied research, in the Biological Sciences, to make critical contributions to national security and national health challenges. In this role, you will serve as an integral member of the group, contributing to general lab maintenance as well as sponsored projects and internal research efforts. You will use your excellent organizational and problem-solving skills to keep processes running efficiently in our new facility, coordinating service contracts, ordering consumables, and optimizing facility function.


As a Biology Lab Technician, you will:

  • Assist the lab manager by: 
    • Helping with day-to-day operations of BSL2/BSL2+ facilities
    • In organizing equipment maintenance and service contracts
    • Supporting basic procurement needs
  •  
  • Performing tasks utilizing standard laboratory protocols under direction of technical Proffesional Staff. Tasks may include: 
    • Reagent preperation 
    • Mammalian and microbial cell culture and maintenance
    • Nucleic acid and protein extraction
    • PCR and reverse transcription PCR
    • Clinical sample handling and preparation
    • Sequencing library preparation

 


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a high school diploma.
  • Have 1+ years experience working in a biology or related laboratory.
  • Have strong communication and collaboration skills ability to contribute to teams from any position.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.

 

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a Masters Degree and 5+ years of professional experience in the Biological Sciences or relevant field.
  • Have formal experience working in a research facility.
  • Have a demonstrated track record of productive collaborations with multidisciplinary teams.
