Job Description

The Boler College of Business, an AACSB-accredited college, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor of Finance/Economics, beginning August 2023. The ideal candidate would have a research and primary teaching interest in finance/economics and be able to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, in the alternative area. All ranks will be considered.

The Department of Economics & Finance includes nine full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty and one visiting faculty member. Departmental faculty have published in leading economics and finance journals. The Boler College subscribes to CRSP and Capital IQ, has an active research seminar series, and has easy access to a variety of research seminars at nearby institutions (Case Western Reserve, Cleveland State, the Cleveland FRB, and Kent State). The department operates a fully-equipped trading room used by the finance program’s Dornam Investment Group.
Through a variety of experiential programs, our team equips John Carroll University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and a variety of Cleveland stakeholders, to confidently explore their possibilities with integrity, passion, innovation, resilience, and community. We invite our students into experiences wherein they develop learning agility – an ability to continuously learn new things, to acquire new competencies, to deduce what’s coming in their chosen industry, and to adapt to stay ahead of change.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or ABD) in finance or economics from an accredited institution. Previous teaching experience, including demonstrated ability to teach effectively in a technology-facilitated environment, as well as in a traditional classroom setting, and a strong research record/agenda are required. Candidates should possess a strong record of professional service and be willing to engage in departmental, college, and university service appropriate to their rank.

Preferred Qualifications
An academic background that would allow the candidate to teach in both areas. Preferred sub-fields in finance include asset management, security analysis, portfolio management, and risk management. Subject content areas in economics include experimental/behavioral economics, public finance, health and econometrics.

Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions
This position works in-person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio.
