Responsibilities*

-Performs critical and complex billing-related functions requiring analysis, evaluation and an in-depth understanding of the accounts receivable system.

-Apply payments and adjustments to patient accounts.

-Research, correct and resubmit insurance claim denials related to billing.

-Prepare dental and/or medical insurance prior authorizations and run reports as needed.

-Service incoming requests, including handling incoming phone calls, responding to emails and written correspondence.

-Provide assistance in training personnel in related billing functions.

-Process refunds and insufficient funds checks.

-Utilize the electronic claim submission system for medical claims.

- Review financial agreements for adjustments.

-Prepare and submit accounting transaction requests.

-Actively participate in team collaboration on best practices.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Experience in a computerized patient management system. At least 3 years of experience in a dental or medical billing setting that includes experience with prior authorizations of Medicaid and/or Healthy Michigan policies. Demonstrated computer skills to include proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel. High attention to detail, ability to work independently and meet deadlines are necessary. Outstanding interpersonal/communication skills with the ability to handle highly confidential information. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team. Candidates must also be able to communicate with diverse populations including staff, faculty, students and patients. Excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task and work well independently. Excellent attendance record.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with using MiDent.

Work Locations

This position is hybrid, located at the School of Dentistry at 1011 N University Ave and home office.

Additional Information

This is a 2-year term-limited job with a possible extension based upon available funding.
