Description

A 2-year postdoctoral research position in evolutionary ecology is available in Dr. Mark Urban’s laboratory at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. The postdoc will develop an independent project related to my research on ecology and evolution in aquatic systems and/or global climate change. Please see my website or publications for potential ideas. The postdoc will also collaborate on existing projects at varying stages, potentially including projects on salamander adaptation and genomics, eco-evolution in constructed ponds, community assembly through deep time in Arctic lakes, and modeling climate change impacts. The postdoc has the potential to enhance or develop new skills in whole-ecosystem manipulations, common garden experiments, field-based observations, genomic studies, paleo-ecological approaches, and statistical and mechanistic modeling.?Additional responsibilities include written and oral communication of research results and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will have completed a PhD degree in ecology, evolutionary biology, genetics, or a related field prior to the start date. An excellent publication record, strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently are required. Preference will be given to scientists with experience in one or more of the following areas: evolutionary ecology, whole-ecosystem experiments, paleo-ecology, genomics, and fieldwork with aquatic amphibian and invertebrate communities. Start date is negotiable with a strong preference for an earlier start date in the spring in time for the field season. The position is for 2 years conditional on exemplary performance. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with post-graduate experience. To apply, email Dana Drake (dana.drake@uconn.edu) 1) a cover letter that explains your fit to the research position, what independent project you propose, and your potential start date; 2) a complete CV, including publications and grants; and 3) the names and contact information for two references. Review of applications will begin January 18th and continue until the position is filled. For additional information, contact Mark Urban (mark.urban@uconn.edu)
