Postdoctoral Appointee - Nuclear Fuel Cycle

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral appointee to join the Reactor and Fuel Cycle Analysis group. This position would leverage experience in several technical fields including but not limited to fuel cycle scenario analysis and modeling, integrated nuclear waste management, and advanced reactor design and analysis. The individual will: 1) Contribute to the modeling, simulation, and analysis of future scenarios of reactor and fuel cycle facility deployment; 2) Develop computational strategies and enhance state-of-the-art codes to improve the modeling & simulation of nuclear reactor cores, systems, and fuel cycles; 3) Perform simulations and analyses of advanced reactors and fuel cycle systems; 4) Perform analyses related to the management of nuclear waste from advanced reactor fleets; 5) Produce papers and reports describing the research and development.

Position Requirements

  • Doctorate in nuclear science and engineering or a similar field.

  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems and nuclear fuel cycles.

  • Research experience in one or more specialized areas of nuclear science and engineering.

  • Experience in development and/or application of nuclear reactor physics or systems codes.

  • Experience in computer programming and scripting.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, Teamwork.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in nuclear science and engineering, physics, or a related field at the Ph.D. level with zero years of employment experience.
