Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus and Germantown Campus, have an immediate need for two full-time, IT Support Specialist, in the Office of Information Technology Academic Services department. These are non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 25 positions. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College.  Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness.

The normal work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 5pm. Some nights and weekends might be needed depending on the needs of the OIT unit. This position is not eligible for telework.

We are seeking two IT Support Specialist who will provide front-line technical support for classrooms, computer labs and learning centers, offices and conference rooms.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide technical support for technology equipment (personal computer hardware, mobile devices, operating systems, applications, and thin clients), network administration, project planning/completion, and academic campus server maintenance and configuration.

  • In coordination with the Endpoint Computing team, deploy computer images for academic computer labs and classrooms.
  • Install and uninstall software including applications and user data to meet instructional, educational, and technical needs and standards.
  • Install, maintain, upgrade, configure, troubleshoot and repair workstation hardware and peripherals.
  • Install, configure, document, upgrade and troubleshoot network client software, including network, printer and other hardware drivers, workstation operating system, applications and files.
  • Remove viruses and spyware which could compromise the integrity of College network.
  • Maintain network mapping and configuration data.
  • Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot instructor workstations, projectors, audio, video, and lighting systems.
  • Support, operate, and maintain hardware, software, and peripherals for networked digital signage systems.
  • Provide technical support for use of videoconferencing.
  • Create, complete, and track incident-problem-request-change order tickets.
  • Respond, troubleshoot and resolve work orders as assigned through the IT Service Desk.
  • Perform hardware and software diagnostics on computer equipment, including PCs, mobile devices, networks and servers.
  • Provide preventive maintenance on media technology and data projection equipment.
  • Increase skills and knowledge through internet research, publications, on-the-job training, as well as from attending conferences and seminars.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree, preferably in information systems, media or educational technology, or a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing understanding of the field and the ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Three years of experience in front-line support setting up, operating, trouble-shooting, and maintaining computer hardware and software and multimedia presentation and conferencing technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows Operating systems.
  • Experience with windows imaging, configuration, and setup.
  • Working knowledge of Mac Operating system and Apple devices, such as iPads and iPhones.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, protocols, as well as networking hardware such as switches and routers.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field.
  • Proficient in Office 365 preferred.
  • Experience working in an educational institution is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Mobile device management (MDM).
  • Familiarity with docking stations configuration and setup.
  • Experience working with Audio Visual equipment, such as projectors, Smart TVs and       interactive TV technologies.
  • Familiarity with Dell desktops and laptops
  •  Office 365, MCSA/MCSE/MCDST, A+, Network+,or other applicable certification.

Hiring Range: $26.88 to $34.93 per hour.  Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.
