Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Program Administrator for the School of Management and Relations. This position is one of a small team of academic support staff dedicated to supporting the Labor Studies and Employment Relations program. This position advises students on academic progress toward degree completion.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Has school wide responsibilities related to summer session and administering appointments for the summer session.
  • Recruiting and retaining graduate students in two professional Masters programs – in-person and fully online — and in five graduate certificate programs is the core responsibility of this position.
  • The person hired must be able to represent the program well to a variety of audiences, be able to persuade individuals of the value of professional Masters education, and be able to use video/internet/social media and other emerging forums of communication effectively.
  • A broad understanding of what labor and employment relations encompasses and the ability to communicate that verbally and in writing is essential.
  • Creative thinking about how to retain adults who have started an online program by linking them more closely to Rutgers and leading them to become enthusiastic alumni is also necessary.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in labor and employment relations, academic student services, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years relevant experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience working with students and faculty in a university setting
  • Experience conducting or administrating educational programs
  • Outstanding communication skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to manage conflict, negotiate change, and prioritize efforts under pressure
  • Proficiency with micro-computer software and university databases
  • Leadership and collegiality both are important; must be able to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Frequent work in evenings; occasional work on weekends and/or travel within area
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience within the fields of labor and employment relations is desired in order to communicate its depth and reach; to network successfully, and to help prospective students understand the range of jobs for which the program can prepare them.
  • Experience working with labor organizations and/or other non-profit organizations and/or governmental organizations like the NLRB, PERC or the NJ Dept. of Labor; experience with Canvas or other similar online educational support systems; experience with assessment procedures for the evaluation of student learning objectives.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
