Position Highlights The Melandri lab seeks a motivated postdoctoral researcher to carry out research aimed at understanding physiological, biochemical, and genetic mechanisms able to confer heat and drought stress tolerance to cotton and sorghum.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The postdoctoral researcher will carry out independent research in the field of field physiology, biochemistry, modelling, and gene expression. The incumbent will characterize a wide pool of genetic diversity for major crops, such as cotton and sorghum, grown in the hot and arid conditions of the Arizona low desert. This task will involve a mix of physiological phenotyping, biochemical assays (enzyme activities), omics analyses (mainly metabolomics), gene expression analysis, and statistical modeling. This postdoctoral researcher, if they so choose, will be able to mentor both undergraduate and graduate students within the Melandri lab and has the possibility to contribute to lectures carried out by Dr. Melandri.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge in GCMS and/or LCMS analyses.
  • Basic knowledge or R and/or Python coding.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A PhD in Plant Physiology, Plant Biochemistry, or Plant Sciences by time of hire.
  • Experience both in field research and wet biochemistry lab.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Documented experience in biochemistry techniques in plants.
  • Experience in enzyme activity measurement.
  • Experience in measuring photosynthetic performance of plants.
  • Experience in gene expression analysis.
  • At least one paper as first-author in the research field of this position.
