The Software and Societal Systems Department at Carnegie Mellon University is searching for a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow to join the team! We seek computer science researchers who are enthusiastic about collaborating with nonprofit organizations, and who have a demonstrated interest in connecting their research agenda with societal issues. The initial term is until July 31, 2023. Areas of specific research interest include artificial intelligence for wildlife conservation/sustainability, food security, and cybersecurity.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Researches, identifies, and collects large-scale data sets or published works for research projects. Organizes data and accurately replicates identified research.
- Develops models to guide analysis and data manipulation. May use statistical packages or mathematical concepts to evaluate results.
- Documents results. May present results to Research team or other partners.
- May recommend additional research projects based on findings.
- Works closely and collaboratively with faculty at CMU and other universities to write academic
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science (or near completion on PhD), or related field
- 3 years of experience creatively using skills to address problems of societal importance
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
