Job Description
The position is a Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting with teaching, research and service responsibilities. Successful candidates are expected to teach a variety of
accounting analytics, auditing, or managerial accounting courses depending on department’s needs for course coverage.
Responsibilities
The Barney School offers both day, evening and asynchronous classes. The teaching load for the position is 3-3. Faculty course loads generally represent a combination of both graduate and undergraduate courses. Many graduate courses are offered online, so faculty should be prepared to teach in both online and face-to-face modalities. To be successful, faculty are expected to:
  • teach a variety of courses depending on department’s needs for course coverage. There will be also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program.
  • meet and maintain the Scholarly Academic classification under AACSB-International accreditation requirements by engaging in scholarly research. An active scholarly/research agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or other scholarly accomplishments in accounting is expected for successful tenure and promotion. 
  • participate in Departmental, School and University service including committee work, advising and interacting with the Greater Hartford business community.
  • support diversity and anti-racism at the University of Hartford, in the Barney School of Business, and in the community.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Requirements for the position:
1. Education: Doctoral degree in accounting by 8/15/2024 is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) in accounting may be considered. A clear and reasonable plan for degree completion by 8/15/2024 should be included in the application. For continued employment, the doctorate must be completed by 8/15/2024.
2. Scholarly Activity: Willingness and ability to publish to satisfy the University’s promotion and tenure requirements and AACSB accreditation requirements. Please include a detailed scholarship agenda in the application.
3. Experience/Interests: The successful candidate is expected to have experience and/or interests in teaching a variety of managerial accounting, accounting analytics or auditing courses depending on department’s needs for course coverage. 
4. At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
5. Consistency with diversity goals. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to a diverse student population as well as an ability to teach, mentor, and work with diverse students.
Candidates with the following credentials are preferred:
1. Technological Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in the use of Excel and/or experience working with data analytics.
2. Work Experience and/or Credentials: Accounting professional work experience that is substantial in terms of duration and level of responsibility or professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
3. Teaching Experience in Accounting.
4. Applicant demonstrates a promising scholarly focus in Accounting.
5. Applicant expresses interest in developing coursework incorporating current issues in Accounting.

Note: These credentials are preferred and will be considered after all required minimum requirements are met.
