Position Summary

The COD Community Coordinator serves as liaison between College and the citizens of the area served. Coordinates higher education programs delivered within the area communities. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions

  • Provides leadership and vision for the delivery of higher education services within the county.
  • Works with local advisory board to analyze the learning needs of the area served by surveying citizens, speaking with groups and otherwise listening to the requests made for education services. Based on collected data, coordinator will work with the Office of Instruction to create a multi-year plan.
  • Plans and implements a quarterly class schedule, including, but not limited to selecting classes to offer, recommending faculty, obtaining classroom space and creating a schedule in conjunction with the Office of Instruction.
  • Ensures appropriate information and materials such as class schedules, book orders, College procedures and any relevant handbooks/manuals are provided to appropriate employees, students and the Advisory Board as needed and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates student registration, advising, and support services with Student and Enrollment Services on the Pendleton campus; monitors enrollment and determines class status.
  • Prepares and recommends operating budget following BMCC budget procedures; authorizes and monitors expenditures.
  • Following BMCC procedures, oversees and facilitates the recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of instructional staff and part-time faculty in conjunction with the Office of Instruction.
  • Oversees and ensures the proper collection of tuition and fees for classes offered. Ensures those funds are transmitted to the Pendleton campus business office in an accurate, secure, and timely manner in accordance to BMCC procedure.
  • Observes College procedures, processes and deadlines; Board policies, and state administrative and legislative rules.
  • Markets educational program through coordination of news releases with the local media and in partnership with the Marketing and Communications office in Pendleton, using its procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill needs of position.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Ability to build positive and strong relationships between the College and the communities served.
  • Must be proficient in project management, planning, and coordination of diverse tasks on multiple timelines.
  • Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to convey ideas effectively to diverse groups and individuals.
  • Requires the ability to build, understand and manage a budget.
  • Requires a high level of effectiveness in meetings and working with a variety of personalities.
  • Must be computer literate and have working knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Once learned, must effectively apply knowledge of office and College policy and procedures.
  • Must have an understanding of education.
  • Extensive experience with and a desire to serve diverse populations, including non-traditional students and those with multiple barriers to employment.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with public agencies.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • Strongly prefer individual is a resident of the county for which the position serves.

Other Aspects of the Position

Meet with community partners and attend meetings/trainings as needed, valid driver’s license required.

Requires evening and weekend hours and a flexible schedule.

Continued existence is dependent upon special program funding.

This is a part time position up to 29 hours per week as needed. Part time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

Pay: $31.16 per hour
