Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Description


A postdoctoral position in structural biology is available immediately in the research group of Dr. Edward Yu at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. The incoming research fellow will use cryo-EM / X-ray crystallography and other biophysical/biochemical techniques to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of bacterial and eukaryotic membrane transport proteins (Moseng et al., 2022, Sci Adv; Su et al., 2021, Nat Methods; Lyu et al., 2021, EMBO Rep.; Su et al., 2021, PLOS Biol.; Su et al., 2019, PNAS; Kumar et al., 2017, PNAS; Su et al., 2017 Nature Commun.; Bolla et al., 2015, Nature Commun.; Su et al., 2015, Cell Rep.; Su et al., 2011, Nature; Long et al., 2010, Nature) Please find additional information about our research group and the outstanding research environment at CWRU at our Department of Pharmacology website: (https://case.edu/medicine/pharmacology/ ).

This position requires expertise in structural biology. The ideal candidate will have shown the ability to guide a project to completion, from protein expression to structural analysis. Experience with other computer based and cell based biochemical/biophysical characterization methods would be considered a strength. Advanced computer skills are desirable. Prior experience with eukaryotic expression systems a plus.

Qualified applicants must have a PhD or MD/PhD degree; strong written, oral communication, and critical thinking skills are required. As a Postdoctoral Scholar, he/she will present data at departmental seminars, prepare manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals. Preference will be given to applicants with a recognized record of accomplishment as evidenced by scholarly publications in the field of bacteriology or structural biology.
