Job Description


The University of Arizona (UA) Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory (SO) is seeking candidates for one Postdoctoral Research Associate position. SO is a vibrant hub of technological innovations in both observational and theoretical astrophysics and has over 80 faculty members, new instruments, data processing methods, theoretical models, and numerical algorithms are constantly being developed.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to integrate into Kate Daniel’s galactic dynamics group, which has two graduate students and another postdoc working on problems in galactics dynamic, and the Astrophysics Theory group at UA. Dr. Daniel's group is also part of a mentorship network that spans multiple institutions, which provides networking opportunities with leading astronomers across the country with a broad range of expertise.

Applicants will specifically work on expanding the exploration of kinematic structures in the local Milky Way volume to include chemistry and ages with the aim to disentangle various processes that have contributed to the evolution of the Milky Way disk.

SO offers a world-class research environment in space science and astrophysics with strong interdisciplinary programs across the Departments of Astronomy, Optical Sciences, and Planetary Sciences. SO provides direct access to various world-class facilities for ground-based radio and optical observing. Postdocs can apply for time on any Steward facility directly as PI, and will be encouraged to do so.

Start date ranges from April 2023 to Sept 2023.
