Position Highlights The Department of Pharmacology’s mission is to provide quality preclinical and clinical education in pharmacology and therapeutics for medical students, to educate and train graduate and postdoctoral biomedical scientists, to carry out basic research of recognized excellence, and to participate in governance and leadership in the College of Medicine at The University of Arizona and in appropriate national scientific and professional societies. The selected candidate will work in the laboratories of Drs. Frank Porreca and Edita Navratilova to perform preclinical studies in pain neurobiology. We are seeking outstanding, highly motivated applicants to join our vibrant research team. Our group is well funded by several NIH grants. The PIs value creativity, dedication, and teamwork and are committed to in-depth personal mentoring to help trainees gain the specific skills to advance their professional development and scientific career. The applicants will be engaged in group lab meetings and departmental seminars and will be encouraged to present their work at national and international scientific conferences and publish manuscript in high quality journals.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform in vivo and in vitro techniques and procedures related to preclinical pain projects in mice and rats, including behavior evaluation, animal models of pain, surgeries, tissue processing, genetic manipulations of brain circuits, western blotting analysis, ELISA, RNA Scope, microscopy, and immunohistochemistry assays.
  • The candidate will be responsible to work with senior scientists in planning experiments, organizing, and executing experiments, data analysis and interpretation, coordinate students and technicians.
  • The candidate will establish/validate new behavior assays to support project goals; present the data in scientific meetings, write scientific manuscripts, communicate/report and discuss acquired data to the PIs and project management, participate in grant writing and application.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a biomedical science, MD, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications *Experience with rodent handling and behavior, and background in one or more of the following: *In vivo genetic manipulations ( viruses, optogenetics/chemogenetics or CRISPR technology). *Molecular biology, *Fluorescent microscopy and in situ hybridization.
