Position Summary
The Department of Art History at Indiana University, Bloomington (https://arthistory.indiana.edu/ ) invites applications for the Robert E. and Avis Tarrant Burke Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ancient and Indigenous Art of the Americas to begin in August 2023. The duration of the fellowship is one year. We welcome applications from early career scholars specializing in the art, architecture, archaeology and/or material culture of the ancient and indigenous peoples of North, Central, and/or South America, including the Caribbean. Eligible candidates will have received their Ph.D. degree within 7 years of the position’s start date. The Burke Postdoctoral Fellowship provides an exciting opportunity to conduct research, teach, and engage in professional development at a research institution that includes the Eskenazi Museum of Art and the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. We seek a dynamic and original thinker who is committed to excellence in scholarship and is well-suited to teaching an introductory survey and an upper-level course for undergraduate and graduate students. The teaching load is one course per semester. Applicants should submit a cover letter that includes a detailed description of their research program and teaching philosophy; a CV; a 20-30 page writing sample; and a one-page statement on how they would foster diversity, equity and inclusion in research and teaching. Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree in the field of art history with a specialty in the area of Ancient and Indigenous Art of the Americas conferred within 7 years of the position’s start date.
