Dearborn Support Program Assistant
Pay rate: $13/hour 

Job Summary: 

The University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Dearborn Support is seeking an energetic, hardworking student to serve in this exciting position. The primary objectives of this position are to 1) support operations of the student food pantry and 2) support Dearborn Support to expand basic needs and advocacy services to students. 

Dearborn Support advances student success by: Assisting students as they navigate life’s obstacles; Connecting students with resources on and off campus; and Helping to ensure student basic needs are met. 

About the experience: 

As a paraprofessional member of Dearborn Support, the Dearborn Support Program Assistant will assist with both management of the Student Food Pantry as well as expanding efforts and support services in the areas of basic needs. The role will provide an opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones, while supporting the office’s professional staff. This may include research and benchmarking, expanding partnerships on- and off-campus, development of strategies to make resources more accessible, data tracking, and more. Tasks may be flexible based on professional passions and interests of the chosen applicant. 

This position may also provide coverage for Dearborn Support office, phone, and general operations. 

The Program Assistant will report to the Dearborn Support Coordinator. The chosen applicant can anticipate an average of 5-6 hours per week during the spring and summer, and 8-12 hours per week in the fall and winter. 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Upkeep, restock, and organization of the food pantry and advocacy office 
  • Facilitate administrative support (data input/reporting, intake of donations, answering calls/emails, placing orders) 
  • Support Student Food Pantry volunteer management and trainings 
  • Assist with outreach efforts and increasing access to services (tabling, creating marketing materials, info sessions, social media/website) 
  • Continue to develop a comprehensive guide to existing resources on-campus 
  • Support creating a comprehensive guide to basic need resources in the surrounding community 
  • Support the expansion of partnerships with relevant organizations off-campus 
  • Benchmark/research basic needs supports at other universities and best practices for holistic and comprehensive student support services 
  • Assist in identifying gaps in support services and outline an action plan to address student needs 
  • Attend community meetings, as needed 
  • Other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be enrolled as a student at UM-Dearborn. 
  • Must have some knowledge about on-campus offices and services
  • Maintain an ability to keep information confidential 
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction, work independently and creatively
