Job Description
This pool is to fill 3 to 4 vacancies at multiple campus locations: Cypress College, North Orange Continuing Education Anaheim Campus and Wilshire Campus.

Provide specialized academic counseling services including disability management, career, transition planning, and personal counseling to students with disabilities.

Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities while maintaining effective relationships with faculty, staff, and administration.

Participate in the development and facilitation of DSS ARISE workshops, orientations, and other programs for students with disabilities.

Maintain confidential records; accurately record information needed to complete mandated reports.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of program materials and the utilization of effective teaching methodologies and counseling techniques.

Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

Support in classroom outreach and training as recommended.

Support students online with academic supports

Administer and interpret cognitive and academic assessments to determine students’ eligibility for disability support services per Title V Regulations, including the Implementing Guidelines.

Develop and maintain liaison with community resources, other NOCCCD programs, campus resources and local school staff regarding services available to students with disabilities.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

ARISE PROGRAM:
Meet regularly with students in ARISE.

Provide 1:1 and group support for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other areas of disability in ARISE.

Support students struggling with emotional regulation.

Provide guidance and support for appropriate college-level behavior skills.

Facilitate student small groups.

Communicate regularly with DSS director and ARISE faculty coordinator.

Evening and/or Saturday assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.
Special Requirements
The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration.

Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling,

OR

Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT);and either fifteen (15) or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Program or in a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities, or two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following;

(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or

(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

OR

Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area;

OR

The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge and experience counseling a broad range of students with disabilities, including and specifically, neurodiverse students.

Knowledge of federal and state laws/mandates affecting persons with disabilities.

Awareness of and experience with assistive technology.

Experience in collaborating with instructional faculty to build accessible and inclusive classroom environments.

Experience fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.
